Aikido is a traditional Japanese martial art, translated as the Way of Harmony.
Aikido is a unique martial art which offers a way of creating balance when presented with conflict.  The attack of an opponent is redirected.  This allows for no harm to come to yourself or your opponent, creating harmony in place of fighting.  Aikido is a martial art and a highly effective defense against any kind of attack, yet it embodies a way of living and looking at the world that increases self-awareness and respect for others.  Aikido is practiced at all ages and our dojo has students from ages 5 - 75.  The practitioner of Aikido embarks on a path which becomes richer over time.  Please join us for a class and experience what we love about Aikido.

Founder of Aikido

Picture
O'Sensei Morihei Ueshiba (1883-1969) mastered several martial arts and developed his techniques from Daito Ryu Aiki-jujitsu, sword & spear techniques with a spiritual philosophy which held a deep respect for nature and life. O'Sensei Ueshiba's goal was to create a martial art with the principle of harmony - harmony with the universe, with one's own mind & body, and with one's opponent.
O'Sensei's approach is both martial and compassionate because practitioners can use Aikido to defend themselves while also protecting the attacker from injury.  This makes Aikido a widely used training method for law enforcement worldwide.
